Eastern grabs lead in sixth inning to defeat Connors

Eastern Oklahoma State College ran off with the lead late in the game in a 12-7 victory over Connors State College on Thursday. The game was tied at six with EOSC batting in the bottom of the sixth when Tyler Johnson homered on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.

The base paths were crowded in this high-scoring game. The Mountaineers collected 16 hits and Connors had 11.

Connors took an early lead in the second inning when David Mendham singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Mountaineers tied things up at six. Reed Shepherd hit a line drive that was caught, scoring one run.

Eastern took the lead for good with two runs in the sixth inning.

The Mountaineers tallied three runs in the seventh inning. Bailey Dorr and Johnson all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Jacob Womack was the winning pitcher, surrendering six runs on 10 hits over eight innings, striking out nine. Austin Warfel and Brady Smith entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Jack Liddell took the loss for Connors. He surrendered five runs on nine hits over three innings, striking out four and walking zero.

Eastern tallied three home runs on the day. Chris Herb had a homer in the first inning. Johnson had a dinger in the first and sixth innings.

For EOSC, Ridge Stephens, Herb, Johnson, Shepherd, and Kyle Simms all had multiple hits. The Mountaineers were led by Johnson, Herb, and Stephens who all had three hits.

With the win, the Mountaineers improve to 11-6 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
