Three Mountaineer Pitchers Combine To Shutout Southwestern Christian (JV)

Eastern defeated Southwestern Christian (JV) 16-0 on Friday as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Carson Cheek induced a groundout from Thomas to finish off the game.

The Mountaineers got things moving in the first inning. Blake Klassen drove in three on a home run.

Eastern scored seven runs in the second inning. The offensive onslaught came from doubles by Austin Lambert and Austin Albright, a walk by Mac McCroskey, a single by Bryce Matthews and by Cole Broughton.

One bright spot for Southwestern Christian (JV) was a single by Weldon in the fourth inning.

David Sandlin was the winning pitcher for the Mountaineers. The righty lasted three innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out six. Nate Ackenhausen and Cheek entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Van Der Borgh took the loss for Southwestern Christian (JV). Van Der Borgh allowed five hits and six runs over one inning, walking one.

The Mountaineers launched one home run on the day. Klassen went yard in the first inning.

Eastern collected 15 hits on the day. Seth Gray and Matthews all collected multiple hits for the Mountaineers. Matthews and Gray each collected two hits to lead the team. Eastern was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Nick Wimmers had the most chances in the field with six.

Weldon led Southwestern Christian (JV) with one hit in two at-bats.
