Mountaineers crushed at Crowder

The Eastern Oklahoma State College men's soccer team couldn't shake off a poor start and came away with a 5-0 defeat at the hands of a talented Crowder College team on Tuesday night in Neosho, MO.

The Mountaineers started poorly giving up two quick goals in the first 20 minutes and never recovered.

The Mountaineers dropped to 0-4, 0-0 in the Region II Conference.

PLAY BY PLAY
- Cowley went ahead for good 10 minutes in.

- Sophomore goalkeeper Jahvanni Grant came on to play 20 minutes of scoreless soccer, picking up two saves in the process.

Coach Jon Evan commented:

"We came out flat and our performance was poor. I know it's a midweek game, we are in the middle of a congested early part of the season and we are battling through injuries, but we can't make excuses," Evan said. "Crowder is a very talented team and they have the ability to punish you if you are not focused. Give them credit for the result, but we didn't help ourselves any with poor effort and lack of concentration. We need to get back to work and put in some good practice time and re-commit to what we can control and what will give us a chance to be successful, and that is great attitude and effort and a commitment to defending as a minimum."

GAME NOTES
- The Mountaineers took 8 shots and put 4 on frame.
- Grant had two saves in the contest.

Eastern begins Region II play at home on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 5:00 p.m. when they take on conference rival Rose State Community College.
