Mountaineers Knocked off by NEO

Mountaineers Knocked off by NEO

Eastern Oklahoma men's soccer went down to defeat for the third time in as many games. This time the script was a little bit different as Eastern went down 1-0 three minutes into the game on perhaps the only real chance created by NEO in the first half.  Eastern went into the break looking like it was just a matter of time before things would turn their way. Unfortunately, things never did and NEO went away with a 3-0 win.

A mishandled backpass for the second goal and another late goal despite Eastern pushing to get on the board was too much for the Mountaineers to overcome.

The Mountaineers dropped to 2-4, 0-2 in the Region II Conference.

PLAY BY PLAY

- NEO jumped out to an early lead three minutes into the game

- Eastern pushed to get on the board all afternoon but were denied and NEO picked up 2 late goals and the 3 points.

Coach E remarked:

"It's starting to sound like a broken record but our team played hard for 90 minutes and that's all you can ask," Evan said. "Sometimes the game is cruel. We must give credit to NEO, they are a well-coached team and they took full advantage of the opportunities we gave them. We can't get discouraged and must see the positives in our effort and our ability to possess the ball and attack teams while also being honest about our faults. We have to keep progressing knowing that good things will come our way if we do. The bottom line is we have to play as a unit on both sides of the ball for 90 minutes and earn some points in the standings."

GAME NOTES

- The Mountaineers took 4 shots and placed 2 on target.

- Wicks and Dias Neto split time in net and combined for 5 saves in the contest.

Eastern hits the road to face Rose State on Sunday, Sept. 22nd at 4:00 p.m.
