Early Lead for Eastern Sets Stage for Victory over SAU-Tech

Eastern grabbed an early lead on its way to a 12-9 victory over SAU-Tech on Friday. Eastern scored on a double by Alissa Kindred, a double by Baylee Highfill, a fielder's choice by Nene Meza, a double by Summer Perkins, and a home run by Cassidy Floyd in the second inning.

There was plenty of action on the basepaths as Eastern collected 13 hits and SAU-Tech had 16.

After SAU-Tech scored one run in the top of the sixth, Eastern answered with one of their own. SAU-Tech scored one run. Eastern then answered when Kindred singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

Eastern pulled away for good with nine runs in the second inning. In the second, Kindred doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, Highfill doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run, Meza hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, Perkins doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, and Floyd homered on a 1-2 count, scoring three runs.

SAU-Tech scored three runs in the third inning.

Jewell Henry was in the circle for Eastern. She surrendered three runs on five hits over one inning, walking zero.

Eastern hit two home runs on the day. Avery Roberts had a four-bagger in the fifth inning. Floyd had a homer in the second inning.

Eastern racked up 13 hits. Perkins, Taylor Blanscett, Floyd, and Kindred each managed multiple hits for Eastern. Kindred, Floyd, Blanscett, and Perkins each collected two hits to lead Eastern. Eastern was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Katelyn Hoover had the most chances in the field with six.
