Eastern students honored with 51st annual Larry Stone Awards

Eastern Oklahoma State College student-athletes Cailee Hendrick, Devin Mosley, Tevin Mosley and Eric Reece were recently recognized at the college's 51st annual Larry Stone Athletics Awards Banquet.

Each year Eastern honors the legacy of the late Larry Stone of Jay, a former two-sport athlete and Marine lieutenant who died in combat while on patrol in Vietnam. Stone played football and baseball at Eastern in the early 1960s and was known for his unselfish attitude and commitment to his team.

It is this lasting impression that prompted a group of his former college teammates and classmates to honor his legacy by presenting the annual Larry Stone Award to a male and female student athlete who exemplify the same characteristics. A memorial scholarship is also awarded to a student-athlete who will return to Eastern for his or her sophomore year. Stone's sister, Sherri Stone Frederick, presented the awards at this year's event.

Hendrick and the Mosley twins were selected for the 2019 Larry Stone Award on the basis of their overall contributions to the spirit of athletics and their demonstration of teamwork, determination, unselfishness and citizenship.

Hendrick is a softball player from Lufkin, Texas. She earned an associate degree in health, physical education and recreation this spring. She is a recipient of the George Tolbert Foundation Scholarship and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She hopes to continue her academic and softball career at a four-year university this fall.

Twins Devin and Tevin Mosley are basketball players from West Memphis, Arkansas. Both earned associate degrees in physical science this spring. They were also recipients of Faculty Choice Scholarships and members of the Math and Science Club. Devin and Tevin plan to pursue engineering degrees at a four-year university this fall.

Reece, a freshman baseball player from San Antonio, Texas, received the Larry Stone Memorial Scholarship. He will return to Eastern next fall to continue his education, play baseball and serve as the college mascot. The Stone Memorial Scholarship is awarded to Eastern's outstanding freshman student-athlete and is selected on academics, leadership and sportsmanship.
