Nine Baseball Players Earn Region 2 Awards

Nine Eastern baseball players earned 2022-2023 NJCAA Region 2 Division I Awards.

Matthew Holzhammer was named to the All-Region 2 First Team. Seth Brecheen, Ike Shirey and Caleb White were named to the All-Region 2 Second Team. Gabe Hamilton, Adam Moser, Hunter Ryan, Cam Talburt and Preston Watkins earned Honorable Mention. Shirey and Ryan also earned Gold Glove honors.

Holzhammer is a sophomore pitcher/infielder from Wister, Okla. In 15 appearances on the mound this season, he posted a 3.90 ERA with 69 strikeouts. At the plate, Holzhammer compiled a .214 batting average with 6 HR, 31 RBI and 21 runs scored. He was also named Region 2 Pitcher of the Week for Week 5.

Brecheen is a freshman infielder from Byng, Okla. In 46 games, he compiled a .298 batting average with 9 HR, 43 RBI and 44 runs scored. He was also named Region 2 Player of the Week for Week 5.

Shirey is a sophomore infielder from Dale, Okla. In 42 games, he compiled a .342 batting average with 4 HR, 22 RBI and 50 runs scored. Shirey was also named a Region 2 Gold Glove recipient, posting a .964 fielding percentage and turning 17 double plays.

White is a sophomore pitcher from Van, Texas. In 14 appearances on the mound this season, he posted a 3.95 ERA with 72 strikeouts.

Hamilton is a freshman infielder from Oktaha, Okla. In 32 games, he compiled a .272 batting average with 14 RBI and 13 runs scored.

Moser is a sophomore outfielder from Lafayette, Colo. In 41 games, he compiled a .297 batting average with 5 HR, 22 RBI and 36 runs scored.

Ryan is a freshman catcher from Channahon, Ill. In 43 games, he compiled a .362 batting average with 7 HR, 44 RBI and 35 runs scored. Ryan was also named a Region 2 Gold Glove recipient, posting a .563 runners-caught-stealing percentage.

Talburt is a sophomore outfielder from Broken Arrow, Okla. In 37 games, he compiled a .282 batting average with 2 HR, 18 RBI and 25 runs scored.

Watkins is a freshman pitcher from Deer Park, Texas. In 17 appearances on the mound this season, he posted a 3.46 ERA with 33 strikeouts.
