Dallas – The Eastern Oklahoma State College Mountaineers completed their second week in style, using a goal in each half from sophomore Jose Maria Ruarte to climb to a 2-0 victory over Cedar Valley CC.
Ruarte's goals, his third and fourth of the season, came off assists from fellow sophomore, forward Brandon Molina.
"We had a chance to put the game away in the second half and we did," Eastern Head Coach Jon Evan said. "We kept attacking and eventually Brandon fought for a flick-on to Jose for the second goal."
Eastern's first goal came on a shot by Ruarte in the 32nd minute and the game stayed 1-0 until Molina and Ruarte hooked up in the 74th minute to put the game away.
"It's very important for us to come away with a win against our non-conference schedule early in the year, especially playing against a seasoned side in a difficult environment on the road. Still, we need to be more disciplined defensively and more decisive in the final third if we want to really play at a high level," Evan said.
