Eastern Women’s Basketball Wins NJCAA Region 2 Tournament

WILBURTON, Okla. – The Eastern Oklahoma State College women's basketball team earned its first NJCAA Region 2 Tournament title since 2001 with a 77-70 win over Seminole State College on in the championship finals on Saturday in Enid.

Freshman guard Shanequa Henry of Texarkana, Texas was named the Tournament MVP after averaging 19 points, four rebounds and five assists in three games. Sophomore guard Jaylann Myles of Mesquite, Texas and freshman forward Tilan Nolan of Oklahoma City were also named to the All-Tournament Team.

In the first round of the tournament, Eastern defeated Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa 100-63. The Lady Mountaineers faced Murray State College in the semi-finals and earned a 92-80 victory.

Second-year Head Coach Al Davis has led the Lady Mountaineers to an 18-4 season and the first Region 2 Conference title and Region 2 Conference Tournament Championship in 20 years.

Eastern will continue its season in the NJCAA DI Women's Basketball Championship at the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock, Texas. Eastern will play Three Rivers College in the first round of the tournament on Monday, April 19 at noon. All games of the tournament will be livestreamed on the NJCAA Network at njcaa.org/network.
